1 killed, 3 hurt in a fatal Florida truck crash
Last updated Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023
One person died and three others were injured in a fatal Florida truck crash in Columbia County on Wednesday, December 21.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that the tragic incident happened around 7 p.m. at Southwest County Road 240 and Southwest Little Road in Lake City.
A pickup truck traveling west on CR 240 failed to negotiate a left curve and crashed into an SUV waiting at the stop sign on Southwest Little Road.
The pickup continued west on Southwest Little Road until it came to a halt at the southern tree line. As a result of the fierce impact on the SUV, it was pushed off the road and onto the northern grassy ditch.
The sole passenger of the SUV – a 66-year-old Lake City woman – was declared dead at the scene, while the driver, a 70-year-old Lake City man – was critically injured. The driver and the sole passenger of the pickup escaped with minor injuries.
A news release from the Florida Highway Patrol says neither person in the pickup was wearing a seatbelt.
Press releases from the FHP no longer include victim names.
An in-depth investigation is active and ongoing, and additional details will be revealed as they become available.
Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased’s family during this difficult time. Our prayers are with the injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.
