Child killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Florida Turnpike

A deadly, multi-vehicle crash on Florida Turnpike Saturday, March 18 night led to the sad loss of a 6-year-old girl. The County Line Road crash caused injuries to many other people, shutting down the Florida Turnpike for five hours and causing traffic jams.

It happened at about 8 PM when a northbound white Dodge SUV improperly switched lanes towards the right and came in direct contact with a white GMC SUV approaching from the other direction. The GMC crashed into the right side of the Dodge, which exploded into flames, then collided with a grey Mercedes.

All seven occupants of the Dodge managed to escape without any fire-related injuries, but they had other injuries. One of them, an unidentified girl, 6, was rushed to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately died there. There is no word on the status of the other occupants, who also went to a hospital. GMC’s occupants required medical attention as well.

The crash details are likely to be released shortly following an investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the departed child’s family and relatives. Our best wishes go out to the injured for a speedy recovery.

Catastrophic lane change crash on Florida Turnpike

Changing lanes without warning causes a lot of crashes in Florida. Head-on crashes with fatal consequences can occur due to this common practice. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 9% of car accidents happen because drivers are incorrectly merging into traffic or switching lanes.

Changing lanes dangerously on the highway is scary if you brush up against a speeding car. It’s common for these types of accidents to be disastrous because the other driver is caught off guard with zero reaction time to avoid a collision.

If a loved one is injured or killed in a lane-changing accident, Rebein Law is here to help. With experience, knowledge, and a heart for justice, our Tampa car accident attorneys stand ready for any challenge to obtain justice and maximum compensation throughout the state.
