Deadly Florida crash kills 81-year-old in Marion County
Last updated Wednesday, March 8th, 2023
Florida Highway Patrol reports a deadly Florida crash in Marion County on Monday, March 6 that killed an old woman.
It happened at the intersection of SR 35 and SE 92nd Loop shortly after noon when a westbound Subaru Forester on Southeast 92nd Loop blew past a deputy’s flashing light, ran through a red light, and rammed into the driver’s side of a southbound Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Camry, an 81-year-old Summerfield woman, died at the scene after the smashup. Marion County Fire Rescue officials had a tough time extricating the victim from her sedan.
The Subaru driver, a 37-year-old Fruitland Park man, was taken to the UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he remains in serious condition.
Florida Investigation Advance Reconstruction (FLAIR), the unit that handles high-speed, tricky crashes, is investigating the wreck, and more details are expected soon.
We extend our deepest condolences to the departed woman’s family. Our prayers go out to the injured man for a speedy recovery.
