Estero, FL (January 1, 2021) – An eight-year-old was killed and four others were seriously injured following a car crash in Estero on Friday morning, December 31. The deadly accident was reported at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Corkscrew Road at around 6:30 a.m.
Local reports revealed that a 30-year-old driver from Tampa was headed southbound on the highway when they failed to slow for stopped traffic ahead. The driver crashed into the rear of an SUV containing two adults and two children from Nashville. The impact caused the SUV to be pushed into the back of an empty fuel tanker.
A 5-year-old girl in the SUV suffered critical injuries in the crash. The two adults were seriously injured and transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. An 8-year-old girl was taken to Golisano Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The Tampa driver was also injured and hospitalized.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is underway.
