Florida DUI accident kills one

St. Petersburg police have reported the arrest of a woman driver responsible for a deadly Florida DUI accident that killed one on Monday, January 16.

It was around 7:30 PM when Leasha Boyd, 37, of St. Petersburg, crashed her BMW into a pickup truck while driving west on 38th Avenue North near the intersection with 40th Street North.

The pickup truck overturned due to the powerful impact of the crash. The driver, identified as Miguel Diaz Arzola, 62, of St. Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by fire crews.

Police sources have indicated that the BMW driver was drunk and carrying two children – aged 5 and 12 – on board at the time of the crash. Both the kids received minor injuries, prompting a trip to the All Children’s Hospital for medical attention.

The police booked Boyd and charged her with DUI homicide and two charges of child neglect. A detailed investigation into the crash is underway, and more details are expected soon.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Arzola family during this difficult time. We wish the two innocent children a speedy recovery.

Has a Florida DUI accident caused your loved one’s death?

A road accident can be unbearably painful for a family when a loved one is tragically lost. Justice must be sought when a driver’s negligence causes the death of the family’s primary provider.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that aggressive driving and DUI driving have become major contributing factors to highway accidents in Florida. In three out of ten documented collisions, careless drivers are at fault.

A victim’s family members are typically unfamiliar with Florida’s wrongful death laws and find it difficult to recover fair compensation following a fatal car accident. If such an unfortunate tragedy occurs, the families of deceased individuals are entitled to the protection of their constitutional rights.
