Greater Northdale, FL (August 1, 2022) – A deputy was hurt after an alleged drunk driver ran a red light in Greater Northdale on Sunday, July 31. The accident occurred on Dale Mabry Highway near Ehrlich Road at around 6 a.m.
Local reports revealed that the deputy and another driver entered the intersection after they got a green light. A motorist reportedly failed to stop for a red light and crashed into the side of the deputy’s vehicle. The deputy suffered an upper-body injury and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver who ran the light, Carlos Gutierrez Aquino, showed signs of impairment. Aquino was later charged with driving while intoxicated.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
