Hernando Co, FL (June 4, 2021) – A faulty traffic light at an intersection in Hernando County caused a fatal collision involving a semi-truck on Friday, June 4.
The deadly crash occurred in the Ridge Manor area at the intersection of US-301 and FL-50 at around 3 a.m. A nearby fire reportedly left the traffic signal inoperable. An SUV containing a family from Moncks Corner, South Carolina was traveling southbound on US-301 while a flatbed tractor-trailer was traveling east on FL-50. Local sources revealed that the semi had entered the intersections mere seconds before the SUV.
The two vehicles collided, causing the 18-wheeler to jackknife. Two occupants of the SUV were ejected and killed in the accident. The 29-year-old female driver and two juvenile occupants were also injured. The deceased victims were reportedly the father of the children and the man’s mother.
The 42-year-old operator of the semi suffered injuries. An ongoing investigation into the accident is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
