Homosassa, FL – 4-Month-Old Boy Airlifted after Collision on W Homosassa Trail near S Bolton Ave

Homosassa, FL (November 26, 2022) – A 4-month-old boy was airlifted after a serious car crash happened in Homosassa on November 19. At about 9:40 p.m., on Saturday, the ATV the boy was a passenger in was struck by a sedan, according to information provided by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sources say a 4-year-old Homosassa man was headed south on West Homosassa Trail in the ATV, just west of South Bolton Avenue. A sedan was also headed south and collided with the rear-end of the ATV, FHP reported.

Due to the impact, the 49-year-old sedan driver lost control, left the roadway and entered the west shoulder, and collided with a tree. The ATV stopped on the southwest corner of the West Homosassa Trail, near where the sedan struck the tree.

Neither the sedan’s driver, the ATV driver, or three of its occupants — identified as a 47-year-old woman, a 15-year-old girl, and a 24-year-old female, all of Homosassa, were injured in the crash. The 15-year-old, the 24-year-old, and the 4-month-old baby were all seated in the second row of the ATV.

The infant was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital from Grandmarch Park. The severity of the baby’s injuries remains unknown. Police in Homosassa continue to investigate the details of the accident.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.

Florida Car Crashes

Homosassa, FL - 4-Month-Old Boy Airlifted after Collision on W Homosassa Trail near S Bolton AveWhen you sustain serious injuries in a car crash, you may have to deal with a lot of problems in the aftermath of your accident. Not only may you be dealing with painful injuries that limit your ability to live your life, but you may also be wondering how you’ll pay for those injuries and the treatment you need to recover. Oftentimes, hospitalization related to serious injuries suffered in auto accidents, like broken bones, spinal cord injuries, back injuries, head injuries, and other serious injuries can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. It can be difficult to come up with this kind of money to pay for being hurt in an auto crash.

The number of car wrecks that happen in the United States and throughout the state of Florida continues to rise every year. On average, there are around 6 million vehicle crashes reported annually in the country. About 450,000 of those happen in the state of Florida. Florida is among the top three states in the nation with the most reported auto accidents per year. California and Texas are the other two listed with more auto accidents than any other state.

Every day, over 1,000 car wrecks are reported in the Sunshine State. Almost half of these will cause injuries to at least one person. Each year, about 170,000 auto crashes result in injuries in Florida. These wrecks happen for a multitude of different reasons, including:

  • Speeding
  • Failing to yield to traffic lights
  • Drunk driving
  • High driving
  • Texting & driving
  • Bad weather
  • Falling asleep at the wheel
  • Animals

The majority of auto accidents in Florida are caused by the negligent actions of drivers. Whether a driver is drunk, high, over-tired, speeding, or distracted, driver negligence causes more car wrecks throughout the country than bad weather and vehicle malfunctions combined. When negligent drivers cause accidents that end in injuries, those victimized often suffer a great deal.
