Lacoochee, FL (October 18, 2021) – A Dade City man was arrested after a fatal auto accident in Lacoochee on Saturday, October 16.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred on FL-575 near Old Polk Road. Emergency responders were called to the scene at around 7:30 p.m. that evening. Local sources revealed that 22-year-old Austin James Hernandez of Dade City was driving on the highway when he crossed the centerline.
Hernandez crashed head-on with another vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Webster man. The man and his passenger, a 3-year-old boy, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The man was later pronounced dead. Hernandez fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities.
An ongoing crash investigation is in progress.
