Lakeland, FL (January 3, 2022) – A man was killed and a child injured following a two-vehicle collision in Lakeland on Saturday, January 1. The fatal crash was reported at the intersection of Crystal Lake Drive and US-98 at around 4:46 p.m.
Local reports revealed that the driver of a Ford Mustang was making a left turn onto Crystal Lake Drive from the highway. The vehicle entered into the path of a northbound Hyundai SUV. Both vehicles collided at the scene.
Emergency responders were called to the scene to provide life-saving aid. The driver of the Hyundai, 52-year-old Michael Monroe, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger of the Hyundai and three occupants of the Ford, including a 6-year-old, were hospitalized for treatment of sustained injuries.
An ongoing accident investigation is underway.
