Lakeland, FL – Multiple Injuries in Fatal Pileup Crash on US Hwy 98

Lakeland, FL (May 29, 2021) – On Friday, May 28, a Center Hill man was killed and multiple truck drivers were injured following a multi-vehicle accident in the Lakeland area.

Local reports indicated that the deadly crash occurred at the intersection of US Highway 98 and Lakeland Acres Road at around 7 a.m. that morning. A driver was reportedly traveling southbound on the highway when he drifted into oncoming traffic, sideswiping an international semi-truck and trailer operated by a Georgia man.

The driver continued drifting into the northbound lane where he struck another semi tractor-trailer operated by a Port Richey man. The impact caused the 18-wheeler and its trailer to exit the roadway, coming to rest nearly 150 feet away at the treeline.

The at-fault driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two truckers were hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
