Manatee Co, FL (August 20, 2021) – On Monday, August 16, a Sarasota man was killed following a pedestrian accident in Manatee County in the Bradenton area.
The deadly crash occurred near the crossing of US-301 and 44th Avenue E. late that night. A 26-year-old man from Sarasota was crossing the highway at the time of the crash. At around 8:35 p.m., the pedestrian was struck by an SUV driven by an 83-year-old Bradenton man.
The driver encountered the walker and was unable to avoid the impact. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the pedestrian. The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel. Local reports revealed that the victim may have been hit by another vehicle, but that has yet to be determined. The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been disclosed at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the fatal pedestrian accident is currently in progress, and more information will be released as it continues.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Tampa FL
In 2017, a pedestrian was murdered every 88 minutes on average in the United States. Pedestrians in Florida are especially vulnerable, as the state has a reputation for being a dangerous place for pedestrians, particularly in major cities. Because there is little that can be done to shield pedestrians from the entire impact of a collision, they are particularly vulnerable.
Pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger car occupants to be killed in a vehicle collision, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Despite a decline in the total number of fatal crashes, pedestrians are killed or wounded in vehicle accidents at an increasing rate each year.
