New Port Richey, FL (October 22, 2022) – In the early morning of October 21, a car crash happened in New Port Richey that required an emergency dispatch. The incident was reported to officials in the area shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Sources say the accident took place on Little Road near Citizen Drive for reasons still being investigated by local police. At least one person sustained injuries in the wreck that blocked all southbound lanes of Little Road for some time.
While the roadway was blocked, authorities investigated the details of the collision, and emergency med techs rendered aid to those with injuries. The involved vehicles were damaged and fire crews worked to clear them from the roadway.
At this time, the cause of the collision has not been determined. We hope for the full recovery of the injured parties.
Florida Auto Accidents
About 1,000 auto collisions take place in the state of Florida per day, and around 400,000 happen every year. These collisions injure and take the lives of numerous people per year. Unfortunately, a large percentage of auto accidents that occur in the state of Florida are preventable and caused by drivers who act negligently while behind the wheel.
Driver negligence has become a serious issue in the United States in the past ten years or so. This is probably related to the rising popularity of smartphones and people’s ever-increasing reliance on them. People use their phones to not only communicate with one another, but also use them for entertainment, travel directions, and more. This causes individuals to almost constantly be looking at their phone screens, even when they are driving.
Although it may be tempting to look down at your phone while behind the wheel, this is never a smart move. Looking at your phone for five seconds is equal to driving the length of a football field blindfolded. Every single person you encounter in that five seconds is at risk for serious injuries or even death. Taking the life of a stranger is not worth checking your social media or choosing to look at the map instead of listening to the directions.
