One dead in a fatal crash in Calhoun county
Last updated Thursday, March 16th, 2023
Florida Highway Patrol reports a multi-vehicle crash in Calhoun County on Sunday, March 13 which claimed one life.
The accident occurred around 5 PM when an eastbound truck on State Road 20 lost control and tried to overcorrect but ended up in the westbound lane just beyond County Road 275 and crashed into another truck driving west.
A fire started in the eastbound truck after the crash. Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies tried hard to pull out the driver safely, but despite their heroic efforts, they could not save him. The driver of the westbound truck is also seriously injured.
After the truck crash, a passing car ran into debris, sending it off the road into a ditch to avoid colliding with any of the trucks. The vehicle reportedly only got minor damages.
An investigation is underway, and more information should be available in the coming days.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and friends.

Calhoun County crash sparked by distracted driving
In driving terms, distracted driving refers to doing something else at the wheel that takes the driver’s attention away from the road. The more distracted drivers are, the more likely they are to crash. Using your phone for talk or text is the most common cause of distractions behind the wheel. There are nine deaths every day in crashes involving distracted drivers in the U.S.
Distracted driving can be prevented by following the golden rule of staying focused on the road and never multitasking while driving. Whatever it is – streaming music from Spotify, checking mirrors, eating, calling, texting – should happen before you accelerate or wait until you get there.
