One Killed and two injured in a Volusia County crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a violent crash early Sunday, March 12, on State Road 40, near Palmetto Pines Drive, killed a man and seriously injured two others.

Troopers report that the crash happened just before 4:00 AM when a westbound Chrysler Town and Country on SR-40 overcorrected, veered off the road, crossed over to the eastbound lane, and finally crashed head-on into a Ford F-1. The Ford flipped over and crashed into a sign, injuring both the occupants inside.

Sadly, Chrysler’s driver, a Sanford man, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ford’s driver has been identified as a 32-year-old Ormond Beach man and the passenger as a 45 year old man from Orange City. They were both taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

The dead Sanford man was the only one in the accident who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. In the aftermath of the crash, SR-40 was closed for several hours before reopening on Sunday afternoon. The accident is under investigation, and more details should come out soon.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family in this trying time. Our prayers go out to every one of the injured for a speedy and successful recovery.
