One killed in a chain reaction Palmetto Expressway crash
Last updated Saturday, February 18th, 2023
A devastating Palmetto Expressway crash left one dead and two injured Thursday, February 02, on State Road 826 just before 5 AM.
According to Florida Highway Patrol officials, the driver of a southbound green Honda SUV near SW 24th Street lost control and crashed into a left concrete barrier wall. There was such a strong impact that it sent the SUV skidding across all lanes and into the concrete guardrail on the right side of the freeway.
A Volkswagen sedan driver witnessed the ensuing incident and slowed down, apparently to help the Honda SUV driver, but tragically ended up being hit by an oncoming GMC SUV. The deadly crash killed the GMC driver on the scene.
The woman driver of the Honda SUV was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition, whereas the Volkswagen driver proceeded to another local hospital. An update on his condition is not yet available. There is no information on the identity of the man who died.
All but two expressway lanes were temporarily shut down after the accident and opened about five hours later around 10 AM.
Our deepest condolences go out to the departed’s family during this time of grieving. Our prayers are with all the injured, and we wish them a complete and swift recovery.
