Pedestrian Crashes in Florida
In the United States, a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes on average in 2017. In Florida, pedestrians are particularly susceptible. The state has a negative image as a risky place to visit. There is little that can be done to protect humans from the full power of a collision. As a result, pedestrians are more likely to sustain serious injuries.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger car occupants to be killed in a vehicle collision. Pedestrians are killed or injured in automobile accidents at a rising rate each year, despite the fact that overall mortality rates are down.
