Polk Co, FL (July 5, 2021) – A car crash in Polk County on the night of the Fourth of July left two people dead and multiple others injured, according to local accounts.
The fatal accident occurred near the crossing of Thornhill Road and Byni Ridge in the Winterhaven area at around 10:30 p.m. that evening. Local reports revealed that the driver of a 2016 Kia Optima was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection, entering the path of an oncoming 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The two vehicles collided.
The driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old Eagle Lake woman, suffered fatal injuries in the impact. A 36-year-old man riding in the front seat was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead. A four-year-old child in the Kia sustained critical injuries.
The 51-year-old Winter Haven man driving the Tundra suffered a broken leg, and four of his passengers were hospitalized for treatment.
An ongoing crash investigation is underway.
