Polk Co, FL (June 21, 2021) – A pileup crash in the Polk County area ended in a fatality on Sunday, June 20.
The fatal crash took place on Ellis Avenue near Park Street at around 2:15 a.m. that morning in an undeveloped part of Lakeland. A 22-year-old Lakeland woman was reportedly traveling as a passenger in a 2003 gray Ford Focus driven by a 23-year-old Tampa man at the time of the deadly accident. The driver reportedly stopped the vehicle, parking it on Ellis Avenue.
It was then that a 54-year-old woman from Lakeland was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2001 gray Buick Century. She reportedly struck the front passenger side of the Ford. The Focus spun around, hitting a parked vehicle in a nearby driveway, and caused the Lakeland woman to be ejected. The driver of the Buick also hit a parked vehicle, which in turn crashed into another parked car.
The 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Ford was taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The other motorist was also injured and hospitalized.
An ongoing crash investigation is being managed by local authorities.
