Last updated Monday, February 13th, 2023
A tragic Florida motorcycle crash in Nassau County left both the rider and pedestrian dead.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, officers immediately responded to the accident scene on Jasmine Street and Citrona Drive after receiving a call around 12:30 PM Thursday, February 9.
Initial investigations indicate that the pedestrian, an elderly man aged 79 from Athens, Ohio, was trying to cross Jasmine Street from the Egans Creek Greenway when he abruptly stepped in front of a motorcycle. The motorcyclist failed to control his motorcycle and crashed into him, throwing the 36-year-old Yulee rider to the ground.
Both the men died from their injuries. Investigations continue into the causes of the accident.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of both victims at this heartbreaking time of grief and sorrow.

This Florida motorcycle crash left an indelible scar
Compared to other types of road accidents, motorcycle accidents carry a far higher risk of causing death. They are among the deadliest on the road given that motorcycles lack body structure and protection in comparison to other vehicles.
Motorcycles make up less than 1% of Florida’s registered vehicles and less than 3% of its vehicle miles traveled (VMT). Yet, they continue to cause significant numbers of traffic fatalities, accounting for nearly 17% of all road crashes in Florida.
Motorcycle crashes are often tragically linked to catastrophic outcomes that have long-term consequences for families. A loved one’s death is a devastating and life-changing shock. The sorrow grows even deeper upon learning that someone’s negligence led to the demise of a dear one.
