Rider killed in motorcycle crash in Sarasota
Last updated Monday, March 6th, 2023
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a motorcycle crash in Sarasota claimed the rider’s life on Saturday, March 3 around 1:00 PM on Clark Road near Sawyer Road.
The investigation says the westbound motorcycle was approaching the intersection when an eastbound SUV tried to turn left turn but ran into the motorcycle. The rider, a 20 year old Sarasota man, was critically injured and rushed to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he, unfortunately, did not make it.
The SUV driver has identified herself as a 67-year-old woman from Sarasota.
Troopers said the biker was wearing a helmet when the crash happened. Nothing else was said about the crash. Homicide investigators have begun an investigation for clues about what went wrong, including trying to figure out how fast the motorcycle was going.
It is with deep sorrow and grief that we extend our deepest condolences to the deceased’s family.

An awful motorcycle crash in Sarasota
Motorcycles take up just two percent of all registered vehicles in the U.S., but they cause about five percent of all highway fatalities. Motorcyclists are often killed in crashes because the motorcycle itself does not provide much protection. Consequently, 80 percent of motorcycle crashes end with severe injuries or death; for all other vehicles, the figure is 20 percent.
Motorcyclists have to be more alert at intersections, where most motorcycle accidents occur. They should take extra care to remain visible to other motorists at all times to stay out of blind spots.
A loved one’s death is a life-changing, devastating incident. Grief worsens once you realize that a driver’s negligence caused the tragedy. Reckless drivers endanger everyone’s lives on the road, so they need to take responsibility for their actions.
