Sarasota, FL (July 3, 2021) – An incident near Fruitville on Sunday, June 27 resulted in serious injuries to a male cyclist.
Early that morning, near the intersection of N. Cattlemen Road and Brown Lane in the Sarasota region, the accident reportedly took place. At around 11 a.m. that morning, the 48-year-old Bradenton rider was struck by an oncoming Hyundai passenger car. The driver then fled the scene, dumping the car about two miles away from the scene.
The driver apparently lost control of the car, hitting a curb and over-correcting into the bike lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At this time, no more information on the crash has been released. The identity of the motorist is presently being sought by local authorities.
Local officials are overseeing an ongoing accident investigation, and additional information will be revealed as the inquiry progresses.
