Sarasota, FL (August 29, 2021) – There were multiple injuries reported after a pileup accident involving an 18-wheeler in Sarasota on Saturday, August 28.
The collision occurred on Interstate 75 at the Charlotte Harbor Bridge near mile marker 161. At around noon, a 60-year-old man was operating a semi-truck on the highway. The trucker reportedly failed to slow down as five vehicles ahead of him were slowing due to another crash on the road.
The 18-wheeler was unable to stop and crashed into the vehicles. The other cars came to a stop on the right shoulder of the interstate. Four involved parties were airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Others were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. The identities of the crash victims were not provided in the initial reports. No further information on the accident has been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is currently being managed by local law enforcement officials. Additional information will be made public as the inquiry continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
18-Wheeler Crashes in Florida
Every year, a significant number of individuals are injured or killed in catastrophic collisions across the United States. Truck drivers who spend a lot of time on the road are more likely to make risky and irresponsible judgments behind the wheel. Approximately 500,000 transportation accidents occur in the United States each year, resulting in the deaths of thousands of individuals. In 2019, passenger automobiles were responsible for around 67% of all truck-related deaths.
A collision with a big truck can cause life-altering or even deadly injuries to those in passenger vehicles. Whether you were in a serious and unexpected truck accident, you should speak with a Sarasota car crash lawyer to determine if you are eligible for lost compensation.
Semi-trucks cause more than their fair share of devastating vehicle collisions across the country, including right here in Tampa, Florida. The statistics speak for themselves, and the bottom line is that Tampa trucking accidents are extremely dangerous, especially when they involve smaller passenger vehicles. Rig operators are required to make safety a priority, but due to intense pressures on the road, even the most skilled trucker can make a critical error that leads to a catastrophic 18-wheeler accident.
