Semi-truck crash on Florida Turnpike leaves one dead
Last updated Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023
Florida Highway Patrol reports a fatal crash on Florida Turnpike near University Drive on Tuesday, February 21, when a semi-truck crashed into a stopped Ford Escape SUV, resulting in the death of the passenger.
According to Lt. Indiana Miranda, the tragic event occurred around 6:30 a.m. to the west of marker 46 in Miramar. The Ford SUV was waiting in the center lane, for unknown reasons, when the semi smashed right into it. As a result of the collision, the SUV veered to the southwest and crashed into the concrete median wall, eventually settling on the paved shoulder inside the median.
Miranda said the 26-year-old SUV driver was already outside of the vehicle before the crash and wasn’t injured. However, his front seat passenger, identified only as a 20-year-old man, was still inside the SUV when the semi drove into it. Miramar Fire Rescue transported the victim to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
The truck driver, 38, did not suffer any injuries. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash and will release more details as they become available.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man for their heartbreaking loss.

Unimaginable crash on Florida Turnpike
Truck accidents have become far too common, despite several safety measures in place. Poor weather conditions, poor road conditions, and inattention on the part of other drivers are some factors beyond truckers’ control.
Driving on highways can be made safer with simple road safety rules, such as never stopping in the middle of a highway no matter how little traffic there is. If ever you are forced to stop in the middle of the road, use a few cones to make yourself visible to incoming traffic. Give other drivers time to slow down so you and them can remain safe
