Tamarac car crash leaves woman dead, many injured
Last updated Friday, February 17th, 2023
The Fire Rescue Department reported a Tamarac car crash that involved multiple vehicles on Monday, February 13. The accident occurred around 1:30 PM near 7300 West McNab Road when a westbound Hyundai Tucson SUV tried to turn left in a bid to enter the University Commons shopping mall and collided with an eastbound A Lexus IS250 on West McNab Road.
A spokeswoman of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Claudinne Caro, noted that the wreck was so violent that the engine of the Hyundai completely ripped out before the SUV turned over and landed on the driver’s side. One occupant ejected after the vehicle rolled over. A child, his mother, and his grandmother were in the Hyundai.
Meanwhile, the furious collision sent the Lexus flying off the road, hit a fire hydrant, several bushes, and a large plaza sign, and rolled over the top of a vacant parked Toyota Corolla before settling in the shopping mall parking lot. Frantz Laine, 19, was driving the Toyota Lexus without any passengers.
As if all that weren’t enough, a large piece of debris from the plaza sign also tore into an unoccupied parked Audi A4.
Officials from the Fire Rescue department confirmed that five people sustained injuries, including a child. All the victims received immediate medical attention at the Broward Health Medical Center, where one – a woman – died shortly after. As it turned out, she was riding in the Hyundai’s front seat.
Eyewitnesses described the crash as sounding like an explosion. An investigation is still underway into the cause of the accident.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased woman during this painful time. Our prayers are with the injured in hopes of a speedy recovery.
