Tampa, FL (July 18, 2022) – Traffic delays ensued on an interstate in Tampa due to a fatal car crash that happened Monday, July 18. At around 7:30 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the wreck on Interstate 275.
When officers arrived at the scene, located near the exit ramp to Kennedy Boulevard, they found a multi-vehicle accident that had been caused by a man who was looking at his phone. The man, while distracted, slammed into the rear of a stopped vehicle driven by a 53-year-old woman from Lakeland. Reports indicate that the woman lost her life due to the impact.
A man, age 39, from St Petersburg, was also present in the woman’s vehicle at the time. He was also killed in the crash. The sedan then crashed into multiple other stopped vehicles causing five more injuries. Among the injured was a six-year-old girl.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident. No other details have been released at this time.
