Tampa, FL (August 10, 2021) – The operator of a pickup truck reportedly hit a pedestrian in a fatal crash in the Tampa area on Saturday, August 7.
The deadly accident occurred just before midnight at the crossing of N. Nebraska Avenue and E. Robson Street. The suspect vehicle was reportedly driving southbound on Nebraska Avenue when it turned onto Robson Street, hitting a pedestrian that was crossing at the intersection. Emergency personnel later located the injured party lying on the roadway in critical condition.
The pickup fled the scene, and the injured pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Local authorities are currently searching for the driver and vehicle involved in the deadly hit-and-run. It was described as possibly being a green or black Ford F-250 or F-350 with a company logo on the side.
An ongoing investigation into the incident is underway.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Deadly Tampa Pedestrian Crashes
Because there is little that can be done to shield pedestrians from the entire impact of a collision, they are particularly vulnerable. Pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger car occupants to be killed in a vehicle collision, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Pedestrians are killed or wounded in vehicle accidents at a rising rate each year, despite the fact that the total number of fatal crashes has declined.
In 2017, a pedestrian was murdered every 88 minutes on average in the United States. Pedestrians in Florida are especially vulnerable, as the state has a reputation of being a dangerous place for pedestrians, particularly in major cities.
