Firefighter Injuries in Florida
Compared to other forms of work, activities at the scene of fire have a higher risk of injury for firefighters. Those involved in fire incidents reportedly experienced nearly 22,450 injuries in 2020 or 35% of all recorded firefighter injuries. Overexertion or strain was the main reason for fire ground injuries. Nearly two out of every five injuries on the fire ground were caused by strain, sprain, or muscle soreness.
Firefighters frequently put themselves in risky circumstances that might lead to both minor and serious injuries. Because of the nature of their work, they make great sacrifices to safeguard our neighborhood. These public employees both deserve and have a legal right to worker’s compensation benefits while they recuperate from workplace injuries. All states allow firemen, including apprentices, volunteers, and part-time workers, to receive worker’s compensation benefits.
Due to the considerable danger involved in becoming a firefighter, state laws have been modified to cover a variety of diseases and injuries for firefighters under their respective worker’s compensation laws. This covers injuries received not just when putting out a fire, but also during other regular labor tasks including office work, upkeep on equipment, and training exercises.
