Motorcycle Crashes in Florida
Many drivers fail to look out for motorcycles, which can lead to fatal collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s most recent data, approximately 80% of motorcycle accidents result in death or injury. Not only that, but motorcycle riders are 27 times more likely to die in a crash than automobile passengers. In Florida, there were 600 motorcycle deaths in 2016, with 409 of them involving another vehicle.
Motorcyclists have limited protection when colliding with a motor vehicle. This means that even if they follow the appropriate safety procedures they are almost certain to suffer more severe injuries in the event of a crash. Even the most common road hazards, such as potholes, ice, cracks, or slick roads, are a far larger risk to motorcyclists than to drivers. Statistics show that riders are at a higher risk of serious injury. Motorcycle accidents can leave riders paralyzed, amputees, or with other lifelong disabilities. Victims may be entitled to compensation following a serious collision. A skilled Tampa personal injury attorney can help accident victims recover and rebuild their lives.
