Tampa, FL (April 15, 2022) – A car accident in Tampa left two people dead and several others injured on Wednesday night, April 13. The deadly accident was reported on Courtney Campbell Causeway.
Local reports revealed that 33-year-old Joshua Roelofs, a former deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, was driving a 2017 Nissan GT-R when he rear-ended a 2005 Kia Sorrento. The four occupants of the Kia were ejected as the vehicle overturned due to the impact.
Two 44-year-old men riding in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. A 6 year-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the deadly crash.
An ongoing investigation into the fatal accident is underway.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Deadly Rollover Crashes in Florida
Rollover crashes have become more common on Florida highways and roads. Driver inattention and poor road conditions are frequently the causes of rollover collisions that result in serious or fatal injuries. In 2010, rollover collisions accounted for more than 35% of fatal passenger-vehicle accidents, but only about 2% of all reported car accidents. In that same year, unrestrained occupants were responsible for nearly 7600 rollover deaths, accounting for nearly 69% of all rollover deaths.
