Tampa, FL (August 12, 2021) – A man has been taken into custody following a fatal hit-and-run crash in Tampa on Tuesday, August 10.
The deadly accident reportedly occurred near the crossing of S. Nebraska Avenue and E. Robson Street at around midnight. Local authorities revealed that 51-year-old Stephen Patterson was traveling southbound on Nebraska Avenue in a pickup truck at the time of the crash. Patterson reportedly struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Patterson fled the scene without rendering aid to the injured party. Video footage from the scene showed a green and black two-door pickup truck dragging the victim’s body, and this was able to help authorities locate Patterson. When he was found, he reportedly confessed to the act and was arrested by law enforcement.
The driver was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving with a revoked license. An ongoing crash investigation is being handled by local authorities, and additional information will be released as it continues.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
