Pedestrian Crashes in Florida
Despite lower overall mortality rates, the number of pedestrians killed or injured in car accidents increases year after year. In the United States, a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes on average in 2017. In Florida, pedestrians are particularly susceptible. The state has a dreadful reputation as a risky destination. Protecting someone walking from the full impact of a crash is challenging. As a result, pedestrians are more likely to sustain serious injuries. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger car occupants to be killed in a vehicle collision.
