Tampa, FL – Yordanis Leyva Facing Charges in Deadly Scooter Crash on Hillsborough Ave

Tampa, FL (November 11, 2022) – A man is facing charges after a child was killed in a motor scooter accident in the Tampa area on Thursday, November 10. 

The deadly accident took place at the 3605 block of W. Hillsborough Avenue at around 6:40 p.m. It was reported that 37-year-old Yordanis Leyva and a 10-year-old boy were riding on a motor scooter at the time of the crash. Leyva was attempting to make a wide turn into a gas station when the scooter overturned. 

Both Leyva and his passenger fell onto the road. Both were then hit by an oncoming vehicle. The injured parties were transported to a nearby hospital, and the child was later pronounced dead. 

Leyva is currently facing charges of DUI manslaughter and driving with a suspended license. 

An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is in progress.
