Tampa man killed in a motorcycle crash in Florida
Last updated Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023
A 37-year-old Tampa resident was killed on Monday, December 26 afternoon following a motorcycle crash in Florida at an intersection in Marion County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, when an eastbound sedan on County Road 484 took a left turn, it ran into a motorcycle. The impact of the powerful head-on collision between the sedan and the motorcycle threw the motorcyclist off his bike and onto the road.
The motorcycle driver was immediately transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. This collision did not result in injury to the two occupants of the sedan, a 40-year-old man and a 9-year-old child.
In keeping with the protocol, Florida Highway Patrol did not release the names of the crash victims.
Following the horrifying crash, a portion of the road was closed, leading to traffic delays. A detailed investigation is underway.
Our deepest condolences go out to the departed’s loved ones in their time of loss.
A motorcycle crash in Florida happens all too often
Only 3% of Florida’s registered vehicles are motorcycles, and fewer than 1% of Florida’s vehicle miles traveled (VMT) are by motorcycle.
However, motorcycles remain a substantially large cause of fatal crashes, accounting for nearly 17% of all traffic deaths in Florida over the most recent five-year period. Every collision carries the risk of serious injury or even death for its victims.
The crash happened in an instant, but it’s unlikely that a family will fully realize the magnitude of their loss until months or even years have passed. No one can deny that the hours, days, and weeks following a road accident can be extremely challenging.
