Ten injured – 3 adults and 7 minors – in a Florida highway accident

Florida Highway Patrol reported a Florida highway accident on the Sawgrass Expressway near Coral Ridge Drive on Sunday, January 22 about 1 PM. The chain reaction crash injured 10 people, including seven juveniles.

According to Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Rescue crews, the crash unfolded when the driver of a Hyundai SUV lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road into the left shoulder, and collided with a guardrail. In an effort to make amends, the driver drove back onto the highway but this time, crashed into a white Nissan SUV.

Police said that a 7-year-old girl was the youngest victim, and a 44-year-old man was the oldest. Paramedics rushed the seven juvenile victims to the Broward Health Medical Center while the adults were transported to Broward Health Coral Springs. It was required to airlift one of the victims to a hospital.

Initial accounts suggest that two teenage girls traveling in the Hyundai are in critical condition, but stable. All other victims suffered relatively minor injuries.

The expressway was completely shut down after the accident and only reopened around 4 PM.

Our prayers are with all the injured, especially the young and vulnerable. We pray that they will recover quickly and completely.
