Truck accident in Jackson County kills one

Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal truck accident in Jackson County on Wednesday, February 15, in which a UPS trailer rear-ended a 53 feet Volvo trailer, killing one of the drivers.

The other driver was also seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The tragic crash happened at about 9:00 PM on the I-10 near mile marker 138. The eastbound lanes were shut down for an extended period of time and all traffic was diverted to exit 136.

The deadly crash caused lengthy delays in the eastbound lanes of the highway. Traffic Homicide is investigating the events leading up to the accident and will release more details as they become available.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased for their irreparable loss. We hope and pray the injured driver is on the road to recovery as soon as possible.

Tragic truck accident in Jackson County

Truck accidents are unfortunately all too common, even with numerous safety measures in place. Poor weather conditions, poor road conditions, and reduced visibility due to rain are some factors beyond drivers’ control.

Drivers can, however, control a number of factors that contribute to accidents, which can reduce serious injuries and fatalities:

  • Driving distracted
  • Driving while intoxicated or drugged
  • Driving for long hours with little rest
  • Overspeeding, especially at night when visibility is poor
  • Overloading trucks

Truck accidents typically occur due to negligence on the part of the truck driver or the trucking company. The loss of a loved one is traumatic and heartbreaking. If you have lost someone close to you or they received serious injuries in a truck accident, you deserve justice and complete financial compensation.

The trucking company will move fast to collect evidence and try to minimize its losses, so you need someone to defend your interests as well. It is important to get in touch with an experienced Florida truck accident lawyer as soon as you can.
