A horrifying wrong-way driver crash in Florida ended in tragedy for the two drivers involved early Friday morning, March 17.
Florida Highway Patrol says the accident occurred shortly after 12:30 AM on Highway 29, near Quintette Road, when a white Chevy sedan, traveling wrong in the north lane, ran head-on into a burgundy Nissan SUV. The Chevy went up in flames while the driver was still inside.
The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. The Nissan’s driver identifies as an 18-year-old girl from Northview High School, Molino, but the Chevy driver is still unidentified.
No more details are made available. Police are investigating the crash, and a report should be out soon.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of both deceased.

A wrong-way driver crash can quickly spiral out of control
Wrong-way accidents don’t happen often, but when they do, they are devastating. Florida Highway Patrol stats show 3,854 wrong-way crashes in 2022, with 128 deaths. Head-on crashes account for approximately 81% of wrong-way driving deaths. The force of a head-on collision is insane, which is why they are so deadly.
The majority of Florida wrong-way accidents occur after dark. Drivers feel less distracted when the traffic is comparatively light, and the roads seem empty and inviting. There are some who get adventurous and drive through the wrong lanes, putting themselves and other drivers in mortal danger.
