Hillsborough Co, FL – Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-75 Injures One

Hillsborough Co, FL (April 2, 2025) What began as a routine Monday drive turned dangerous on March 31 when a tractor-trailer failed to slow down for congested traffic on Interstate 75, triggering a chain-reaction crash that injured one person and shut down a major stretch of the roadway for over three hours.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 11:26 a.m. just south of Mile Marker 262. The 55-year-old truck driver was heading southbound when he did not reduce his speed in time for the slowed traffic ahead. His semi slammed into the back of a Nissan Maxima, setting off a multi-vehicle pile-up involving a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The 62-year-old woman driving the Nissan Maxima suffered serious injuries in the impact. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. Thankfully, the other drivers—ranging in age from 27 to 68—were not reported to be injured.

Photos released by the Florida Highway Patrol show the aftermath of the wreck, which caused a significant backup. Authorities closed off parts of I-75 until approximately 2:44 p.m. as they worked to investigate the scene and clear the damaged vehicles. Traffic was heavily impacted during the closure.

We hope the woman injured in this crash makes a full and smooth recovery.

Car Accidents in Florida

Hillsborough Co, FL – Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-75 Injures OneFlorida has one of the country’s highest number of motor vehicle accidents. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, over 390,000 traffic-related crashes occur in the state each year. Many of these incidents result in serious injuries or worse, especially along heavily traveled highways like I-75. While not every accident is avoidable, increased awareness and responsibility on the road can help reduce the frequency and severity of such collisions.

When we talk about vehicle crashes, it’s important to understand some of the most common types of injuries that victims experience:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: These often occur in rear-end crashes, even at low speeds. The rapid back-and-forth movement can strain soft tissues and ligaments, sometimes leading to chronic pain if not treated properly.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Collisions can cause damage to the spine, resulting in anything from mild nerve compression to full paralysis. Treatment is often long-term and may involve physical therapy, surgery, or adaptive devices.
  • Broken Bones: High-speed impacts frequently result in fractured ribs, legs, or arms. Depending on the severity, recovery may include surgical intervention and rehabilitation.
  • Internal Injuries: Blunt force trauma during a crash can lead to injuries to internal organs, which are not always immediately visible. These are often serious and require emergency medical attention.
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Head injuries from crashes range from concussions to more severe brain trauma. TBIs can have lasting impacts on memory, behavior, and overall cognitive function.
