Last updated Wednesday, May 14th, 2025
Lakeland, FL (May 13, 2025) – A hit-and-run crash that resulted in injuries was reported on Interstate 4 westbound near mile marker 31 in Lakeland on Monday, May 12. Authorities responded to the scene following initial reports of a collision involving a fleeing driver.
Emergency services arrived quickly and provided medical care to at least one injured individual at the scene. The victim was later transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. At this time, police are still working to identify the driver responsible for the crash, who reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.
The crash caused delays along westbound lanes of the interstate while investigators worked to gather evidence. No further identifying details about the suspect vehicle have been made available. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to come forward.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in Florida
Florida’s highways are among the busiest in the nation, and with that comes a high volume of hit-and-run accidents. In 2023 alone, over 105,000 hit-and-run crashes were reported in the state. These incidents often leave injured victims without immediate help and create challenges in identifying the person responsible.
Victims of hit-and-run accidents may face a wide range of difficulties, such as:
- Feeling Powerless: Knowing someone caused harm and fled can leave victims feeling abandoned and powerless. Many wrestle with questions about why someone would leave the scene instead of offering help or taking responsibility.
- Delays in Justice: Without a suspect, cases can take much longer to resolve. This can stall the legal process, leaving victims in limbo for weeks or months without clarity or closure.
- Difficulty Proving Liability: With no other driver present to accept responsibility, victims often have to rely on circumstantial evidence, surveillance footage, or eyewitness accounts to establish who was at fault.
- Potential Insurance Complications: In hit-and-run cases, insurance coverage may be limited or require the use of uninsured motorist protection. These claims can become complex and often require legal support to navigate successfully.
- Ongoing Physical and Emotional Stress: Injuries, financial strain, and emotional distress can linger long after the incident. Victims may need continued medical treatment, counseling, or other forms of support.
