Car Accidents in Florida

St. Petersburg, FL - Crash With Injuries at 34th St N & 52nd Ave NAcross the state of Florida, traffic accidents are a regular occurrence and continue to impact thousands of lives each year. In 2023, state records show that over 250,000 people suffered injuries in vehicle collisions. These numbers highlight how frequently serious crashes occur and how important it is to know your rights and seek help after being involved in one.

Below is important information for drivers to understand when it comes to avoiding and responding to crashes:

  • Causes of Car Accidents: Some of the most common causes include distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving. Many accidents also occur when drivers fail to yield or ignore traffic signals. Knowing the risks and staying alert behind the wheel is crucial to preventing accidents.
  • Driving in Bad Weather: Florida weather can change rapidly, leading to rain-slicked roads or poor visibility. Accidents often spike during storms or just after, when road surfaces are especially slick. Drivers should reduce speed and increase following distance during inclement weather.
  • Nighttime Driving Risks: Driving at night brings added risks due to reduced visibility and higher rates of drowsy or impaired drivers. Headlights and reflective road markings can help, but staying alert and driving defensively is especially important after dark.
  • Teen Driver Risks: Inexperienced drivers, particularly teens, are involved in a high percentage of crashes. Parents should talk with their teens about safe driving habits and supervise their early driving experiences closely.
  • Work Zone Dangers: Construction zones often require lane changes and reduced speed limits. Collisions in these areas can be severe due to the narrow lanes and proximity to workers. Paying close attention to signage can reduce your risk.
