Car Accidents in Florida
Florida sees a high number of vehicle crashes each year due to its population size, tourist traffic, and extensive road networks. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, more than 390,000 traffic accidents were reported across the state in a recent year. These incidents result in over 250,000 injuries annually.
Crashes like the one on I-275 happen for various reasons. Below are some of the most common injuries victims may suffer after a Florida car accident:
- Soft Tissue Injuries: Whiplash and other muscle strains are among the most reported injuries after a crash. These can affect mobility and cause lasting pain if not properly addressed through medical care and rehabilitation.
- Head and Brain Trauma: Even with airbags and seat belts, collisions can lead to concussions or traumatic brain injuries. Symptoms may not appear immediately, making early medical evaluations essential.
- Broken Bones: High-impact crashes often result in fractures. Whether it’s arms, legs, or ribs, broken bones typically require long recovery times and can affect the victim’s ability to work or perform daily tasks.
- Spinal Cord Damage: In some severe accidents, victims suffer damage to the spine, leading to temporary or permanent paralysis. These injuries dramatically impact a person’s independence and long-term health.
- Internal Injuries: Blunt force trauma can lead to damage to internal organs, which might not be obvious right away. These are among the most dangerous injuries because they can quickly become life-threatening without immediate treatment.
- Emotional and Psychological Impact: Beyond physical injuries, many survivors face anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress following a crash. Emotional trauma can affect recovery and quality of life.
