Car Accidents in Florida
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida sees hundreds of thousands of car accidents each year, many of which result in injury. Busy intersections, distracted drivers, and heavy traffic flow all contribute to a higher-than-average rate of collisions across the state.
Being injured in a crash can change your life quickly. Below are several types of injuries that frequently occur in Florida car accidents:
- Whiplash: This common neck injury is typically caused by rear-end collisions. It results from the head snapping forward and back quickly, leading to stiffness, pain, and reduced motion that can last for weeks.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): From mild concussions to more severe brain trauma, TBIs can result in memory issues, difficulty focusing, and lasting emotional changes. Even low-speed crashes can lead to serious head injuries.
- Fractures and Broken Bones: High-impact crashes often result in broken ribs, arms, or legs. These injuries usually require long recovery times, and some may need surgical repair or physical therapy.
- Spinal Cord and Back Injuries: Spinal injuries can severely affect a person’s mobility and daily life. Herniated discs and nerve damage are common after collisions and can require ongoing care.
- Soft Tissue Damage: Muscle sprains, ligament tears, and deep bruising can all result from a crash. Though sometimes overlooked, these injuries can be painful and may limit physical activity for an extended time.
