Tampa, FL – Two Injured in Crash on Veterans Expressway Near Waters Ave
Last updated Friday, January 17th, 2025
Tampa, FL (January 16, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on the southbound side of the Veterans Expressway in Hillsborough County left two people injured and caused significant traffic delays early Tuesday morning, January 14.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. near the Waters Avenue exit. A 58-year-old Spring Hill man lost control of his Ford Mustang while changing lanes, striking a barrier wall. The vehicle then skidded into the path of a Tesla Model 3, resulting in a secondary collision.
Both drivers sustained injuries in the crash. The 35-year-old driver of the Tesla was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the injuries.
The crash blocked all southbound lanes temporarily, causing major disruptions during the morning commute. Traffic flow resumed after the lanes were reopened. The incident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
We hope those injured in this crash make a full recovery.
Car Accidents in Florida
Traffic accidents in Florida are, unfortunately, daily occurrences, with many leading to injuries and fatalities. In 2023, the state saw over 400,000 vehicle accidents, often involving complex factors such as lane changes, speeding, and distracted driving.
Crashes during peak traffic hours are particularly disruptive and can result in severe injuries, including:
- Back and Spinal Injuries: Common in high-speed accidents, these injuries can lead to chronic pain or, in severe cases, permanent disability.
- Head Trauma: Concussions and other head injuries can have lasting impacts on cognitive abilities and quality of life.
- Fractures and Lacerations: High-impact collisions often result in broken bones or deep cuts, requiring extensive medical treatment and recovery time.
- Psychological Effects: Emotional trauma and anxiety after an accident are common but often overlooked, yet they can significantly impact a victim’s ability to return to normal life.
