Winter Haven, FL – Fatal Three-Car Crash on Cypress Gardens Blvd Near U.S. 27
Last updated Sunday, January 26th, 2025
Winter Haven, FL (January 25, 2025) – A three-car collision on Thursday afternoon, January 23, claimed one life and left two others injured on Cypress Gardens Boulevard near U.S. Highway 27.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. during rainy weather that left roads wet and slippery. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a 52-year-old woman from Bartow was driving west in a 2021 Jeep Gladiator when her vehicle began to hydroplane. The Jeep crossed the median into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a 2023 Nissan Sentra driven by a 60-year-old woman from Haines City.
The force of the crash caused the Sentra to spin and the Jeep to roll onto its side. A 2016 Audi, traveling behind the Sentra, was unable to avoid the wreckage and collided with the Sentra. Tragically, the driver of the Sentra was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of her vehicle. The drivers of the Jeep and the Audi sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the woman who lost her life. We also wish a full recovery to those injured in this heartbreaking accident.
Fatal Car Accidents in Florida
Florida reports thousands of fatal car crashes each year, many of which occur during adverse weather conditions. Rain-slicked roads, like those involved in this accident, can significantly increase the risk of hydroplaning and losing vehicle control.
Key facts about accidents include:
- Hydroplaning Risks: Wet roads reduce tire traction, especially at higher speeds. Drivers may lose control in heavy rain or standing water, leading to collisions.
- Head-On Collisions: These crashes often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the force of impact. Drivers must stay vigilant and avoid distractions to minimize risks.
- Chain-Reaction Crashes: Secondary collisions, such as the Audi hitting the Sentra in this case, are common in multi-vehicle accidents and often result in further injuries.
